Use the form below to center the map on an address. You only need to enter the street address (e.g., 100 First St.), not the city or state. You can also enter an intersection, such as College Rd. and Oleander Dr. or just a street name, like Carolina Beach Road.
Currently, only addresses in the Wilmington city limits are valid. We are working on expanding the system. Please contact your law enforcement agency and ask them to be part of this system.
We're in beta: This is a beta, or test, version of this system. That means it might have some glitches. It also means that the final version will include some changes and additional features. But, we want to know what you think. Give it a test drive. Then send us an
e-mail or
post in our forums to tell us what you liked and didn't like and what features you'd like to see. We can't promise we'll incorporate all suggestions but you'll likely see some of them in future versions.
Map view: Click on the names on the right to jump to that marker. You can drag the map in any direction to see more markers. You can also use the inset map in the lower right to navigate. Click and hold on the blue box and drag it where you want to position the main map. Click once on a marker for more information about a particular incident. If markers are stacked, click and hold on the top marker to grab it and move it aside to access the marker below.
Database view: You can search by address or timeframe (see below). You need to enter at least one search term, but you don't need to enter a complete address. After you search, you can download your results as a comma-delimited file, which you can open in Excel.
Timeframe: The timeframe pulldown on the Map View lets you choose to view incidents within the past week, two weeks, three weeks or 30 days. The timeframe pulldown on the Database View restricts your search to incidents within that period.
Reporting glitches: Not all addresses can be mapped. If some of the markers look as though they're off the street, try clicking on "Hybrid" in the upper right-hand corner of the map to see that they actually point to buildings. Note that the information comes from the Wilmington Police Department and is provided without any guarantees or warranties. This system does not currently offer access to reports, although it does provide case numbers. You can use those to obtain reports online at WPD's
P2C Web site. For technical problems or questions, e-mail
Vaughn Hagerty.
